I can confirm both of these bugs.
Possible 'workaround' can be found at: http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi_4.4/Troubleshooting

ie wrt 236538: close Kontact. Start KAddressBook standalone. Quit KAddressBook. Start Kontact.
