Since it work as root, it's almost certainly a permissions error that
has crept in somehow. Let's see...
$ ls -al /var/log
total 1984
drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 4096 May 4 07:37 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Jan 17 20:58 ..
- -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 22395 May 3 14:07 Xorg.0.log
- -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23927 May 3 10:34 Xorg.0.log.old
Check yours.
Oh, and somehow my directory listings have gotten scrambled, all the
caps prior to all the lower case. Does anyone remember what to delete
to free up the locals? I'm too lazy to go looking through the backlog
of postings... :^)
