I think what you will have is the REAL "console" font (ie the one called 
console).  It is fairly thick and chunky.

I am pretty sure that before the latest problems, you had a version of the 
"fixed" font, and that even when you requested the "console" font it didn't 
find it (due to a bug decoding .pcf.gz fonts in libfreetype which has 
recently been fixed).

You can always change the string in the <edit> clause to something other than 
"console" - perhaps "Lucida Console" and it should then use that font for the 
Normal setting.
