Technical answer from David:

[13:51:36] [dfaure] since we have no support for this out of the box yet 
(kghostview would need to use 
KFilterDev....), the only solution for pdf.gz is like tgz : an own mimetype

So, this needs implementing that in kdegraphics. Any volunteers ? :-)
