Ok, I just spent a few hours playing with all sorts of stuff including 
swapping kernels (man, did I pick the wrong kernel a few times.......)  :)

Anyway, needless to say nothing worked, however I did find one little point 
of interest. I could install the new QT liraries (libqt2 libqt2.2) with the 
old beta kde. When I did this I received exactly the same problem as I am 
experiencing with Kde 2-1Final.

To me, whatever appears to be causing my particular problem has something to 
do with the qt lib package.

Anyway, thats all my stuffing about has been able to decipher, if anyone has 
more suggestions....
