Thank you for working on this. As you probably know, Gradle has been a 
major pain point in Debian for a while now.

I would simply like to suggest, please don't aim for perfection: an 
"80%-good" solution would be a great improvement already.

And if for whatever reason your efforts don't bear fruit, please 
document your work and the challenges you faced, so that others may more 
easily pick up where you left off.
