I'm not sure if this is on topic and how difficult it would be to
implement, but could it be possible for Debian to handle some kind of
"global input method" variable that could be set via Debconf when input
method packages (such as uim-anthy, kinput2, etc.) are installed ?

Or simpler : have the input method package propose the user (also via
Debconf) at install if he wants the input method to become the default
one.

I think this could simplify multi-language installation for non tech
experts users who don't know anything about input methods and
internationalization and install the packages without any visible
result.

Just as we have the locale system which indicates
- text encoding format
- keymap
- language of applications interfaces
- other language related stuff such as monetary & date formats
we could add an "input method language" which packages could set
via Debconf when installed (asking the user if he really wants to use it
now in case he's a power user and prefers to handle it by himself)

It seems to me a logical step.
