Hello, 

If your Promise FastTrak is a On-Board...

I have a MAX2 mainboard with IDE-Controllers (4 device), On-Board
Raid-Controller (8 Device) and then a 8-Chanel 3Ware controller

You must disable the Promise FastTrak AND the IDE controller the 
in the BIOS !!!

After you boot from the 3Ware controller, the kernel will detect 
the Promise FastTrak and the standard IDE controller
