I have observed this sort of problem most often when
I forget to configure both forward and reverse DNS for
my networks. I think you can fix it by just putting a
proper /etc/hosts file on both machines, for example:
/etc/hosts
---------------------------------------------
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.1 slip01.mydomain.com slip01
192.168.0.2 slip02.mydomain.com slip02
