My friends and I have a working NIS/LDAP (on debian) implementation here at
home. I could put up some templates for people. Everything works with the
sole exception of ch{sh,fn} and passwd, but ldapmod and ldappasswd work quite
fine for us here and have effectively replaced these utilities.

Actually, now that I think about it, our ch{sh,fn} works. It's just passwd that doesn't, but this is due to a slight strangeness in that the hashing functions for the LDAP server and glibc(crypt) don't quite match. The problem comes when you login.

I can explain this further in depth if anyone cares to listen, but suffice to say, ldappasswd ends up being more functional in our case and really makes passwd unneccesary.

We haven't had to touch our setup after setting it up initally this spring.
