Upon distribution, the maintainers are concerned with ensuring that
the default logging levels are appropirate.   

As a System Administrator, you should construct yourself a matrix,
facilities going down, priorities going across.  Figure out which service
logs what the information at which level of priority.  The idea is to only
log the information you want and need. It will reduce the amount of disk
writes, a very productive effort in system tuning.  It is also a very good
way to learn the features of syslogd.

You will have a better performing system, and be much better prepared to
recognize system anomolies as well.
