radvd is only needed if you get a IPv6 subnet routed to you (at least a
/64, but a /60 is common) and you want to use IPv6 stateless
autoconfiguration to configure your other IPv6 devices. For a simple
setup it is not needed.

You can also use zebra as an alternative for radvd. How to configure
both for IPv6 is explained at http://cabal.xs4all.nl/~wichert/ipv6.html
