Dear Debian Input Method Team,
My name is Asif Hossain, and I am interested in adopting the *ibus-avro <https://github.com/sarim/ibus-avro>* package and contributing to its ongoing maintenance and development. I
have been working with Debian packaging and recently prepared and uploaded updates for ibus-avro through mentors.debian.net <http://mentors.debian.net>. Through this process, I
became familiar with the package structure, build system, and existing issues, and I would like to continue maintaining it more actively.
I am writing to kindly ask if I may:
* Join the Input Method Team, and
* Be granted access to the repository so that I can help with regular maintenance, bug fixes, and future improvements.
I am very motivated to contribute consistently and follow Debian and project best practices. Thank you very much for your time.
* If you would like to join the Input Method Team, what is your Salsa account?
I did not see your request to join https://salsa.debian.org/input-method-team/
at https://salsa.debian.org/groups/input-method-team/-/group_members . You also
did not mention your username in this email thread.
* I can grant you with write access to the git repo *after* you prepared a
proper upload that gets accepted into Debian's archive.
* You did not mention where is your prepared new packaged version of ibus-avro.
If you are referring to Upload #2 on https://mentors.debian.net/package/ibus-avro/ ,
this version has issues that must be solved first:
(1) For (input-method-team) team-maintained package, you should keep the Maintainer:
field intact as the Team's name and email address, and add your name into Uploaders:
list instead. Please refer to Debian Policy Section 3.3 for details.
(2) You need not repeat your name in the changelog entry. The signature at the bottom
of the changelog entry will contain your name already.
(3) You will need to close the RFA bug properly in the new changelog entry in order to
adopt this package. To properly do so, please see
https://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/#howto-o on what you should write in the changelog entry.
Please notify me after you have these issues solved and prepared another version on
https://mentors.debian.net/package/ibus-avro/ , AND/OR after you worked out
a proper packaging in https://bugs.debian.org/1124319 . Feel free to let me know
if you need further explanation on the issues I raised above.
Thanks,
Boyuan Yang
