For me this sounds better: "Since the kernel is using the..." and drop second "newer" (DiskIDs or UUIDs are not really new). Later: "For most modern" (drop "the" since "the most" has a different meaning). Maybe you should run the templates through debian-l10n-english first and/or borrow from grub?
