I have come across the 2^28 sector limitation which seems to apply to IDE disks

I had to put all partitions, including the linux partition, within that limit.
That page says that the AHCI driver does not have that problem, but I had to set
the hard disk in compatibility mode on the BIOS.
Things may be different with rumpdisk, so I will let other people comment.
You can share the swap partition between hurd and linux.

Yes, I only have grub installed on linux with a dedicated entry to boot
gnumach/hurd.
