I now added it to my notes so that future-me will hopefully be a bit wiser. In the meantime, init-system-helpers (#1056391) and insserv (#1056176) have my DPKG_ROOT patch pending for the next upload. You already fixed the hurd package. This means only sysvinit (#1056391) is left -- in case any of you has some good connections to the sysvinit maintainers. :) Once everything (including the dpkg patch) is in unstable, I'll message you again about the progress.
