This is a known issue with the pure-text installer, and I'm building an
image which should fix it. You can use the pseudo-graphical installer
to avoid the issue.

That is indeed related with the console-setup issue you mention above.

Sector 2? Ouch! If that's one of the bad sectors, you might have
troubles installing grub.

/target is only made once the partitioning step is finished.

Ok. I'm afraid the faulty disk will be a definite issue.
