In the passwd package installed by crosshurd about an hour ago,
passwd_1%3a4.0.18.1-5_hurd-i386.deb date Oct 26 10:32,
/sbin/shadowconfig is included in the archive.

I wiped it, just to start fresh, commented out line 122, and the script
went past that point. Now there is a new error when installing passwd:

Setting up passwd (4.0.18.1-5) ...

frontend cannot be used. at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Dialog.pm

Please correct the error and rerun `/sbin/shadowconfig on'
dpkg: error processing passwd (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

 passwd
sh-3.1#

So, it would appear that the old passwd package is the culprit here?
