console ?? I surrender
Hi looking for some fresh ideas.
I've been trying on and off for over a week to get the console running
with no luck, obviously I'm missing something simple.
The install seems to go well using the Debian CD. I native-install
twice, install the install.sh and gui.sh from the cdrom, create the
links for kdb and mouse; but when I execute the console command the
screen goes blank and the only way out is to shut it down, reboot and
run fsck a few times.
I've tried the console command with both the --repeat=<name> and
--repeat=<path to name> with the same result.
example: $ console -d vga -d pc_kbd --repeat=/dev/kbd \
-d pc_mouse --repeat=/dev/mouse -c /dev/cons /dev/vcs
I've tried partition sizes from 2gig down to 900mb, and memory settings
from 512mb to 384mb, but they all fail the same way..... Like the
subject line says, I surrender.
My computer is an Asus A7N8X with an Athlon XP3200 in case there's an
issue with one of those. Also I'm using a hard drive on the secondary
IDE slave - hdd1.
Thanks for any hints.
John
