However, if the detection of your NIC fails, you might be able to figure
out if its supported by gnumach at all. You can have a look at 
 http://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/gnumach-doc/mach_2.html#SEC9
to see what NIC's are supported. I dont know the type of your NIC, so it
might be possible that the gnumach Kernel shipped with the ISO's or in
the Debian package only lacks the configure option.

In order to get an gnumach Kernel which supports your network card, you
can download the sources and compile it with the needed option (thats no
big deal since you only have to pass 3 or 4 options to the configure
script and type an make && make intall)
