Re: Debian Hurd package
Upstream is the most important from my POV. I agree that the
Debian package needs some special attention. :)
Is anyone working on getting the buildd working again (Jeff?)? Cause
it is kinda silly to have a working Debian package that isn't getting
built so that people can actually use it.
- Can you show the user a dialog when configuring the Hurd package
so the user can choose if he wants to use the old or new console?
We definitely need more testers and many people want to have use
its features but don't know about it. The dialog should tell the
user that XFree doesn't work from the new console.
As Marcus said, dialog boxes are evil. Instead a less intrusive way
of getting more testers is to make it easy to start the new console.
For example, the Debian package for the Hurd could setup /etc/ttys and
/dev/vcs, maybe install some fonts. Then a user only has to run
"console -d vga -d pc_kbd /dev/vcs" to be able to get the new console
up and running; you could even make a script for the really lazy
people called console-run. :-)
