The package may work however fine, if the driver is barely usable,
then the package is almost useless too. However, if GNU's serial
driver was fixed to handle 36k/s (or even 36kbps), this was not the
case. But then, someone should have taken over during the ~1.5 year
period while it was orphaned.

The solution would have been to adopt it. Noone can say I removed it
prematurely - I waited a year. If that isn't enough to adopt a
package, which is usable as you say, I do not think it has a reason to
stay in the archive any longer.
