I have found and used a gnu-20030126.tar.bz2 ...
I don't remember where I found it, though. But you may try to find a
more recent tarball (I think Marcus doesn't make them anymore).

This isn't really normal.

This isn't surprising: mach does the same even not in bochs: don't ever
even look at your keyboard while it boots! ;-)
