Thanks. I can confirm that this does allow gui.sh to run successfully.
I still need to export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/X11R6/lib to be able to run
startx. Should this be done in some startup script somewhere?
If I do the export and then run startx, I get the error message
"X: /tmp/.X11-unix has suspicious ownership (not root:root), aborting"
and I still get it if I remove /tmp/.X11-unix.
If I do "chown root.root /tmp/.X11-unix" and then run startx it gets a
bit further. It switches to graphical mode, but then drops back into text
mode. The error log is at the end of this email. Clearly the problem is
that /dev/psaux doesn't exist. Unfortunately MAKEDEV doesn't know how to
make it and neither do I!
Another problem I'm having is that man and apropos both segfault! If this
is not a well known problem I can try to send a coredump and/or trace with
gdb.
