No, as far as I understood it, it would be easy to use the same linker
semantics as GNU/Linux.
Just as it is easy enough to add #defined PATH_MAX 255 to our header files,
regardless how broken that assumption is ;)

Sorry, we are not yet at the stage "we compromise concepts for pragmatic
reasons". We are still at the arrogant "we do the right thing even if it
means everyone suffers until someone gets his ass off the chair and fixes
it" stage. ;)
I would not object against compiling X with rpath. But this is a violation
of Debian policy, and I don't know if Branden would accept it. But if it is
understood that this is only a temporary solution, he might accept.
Compiling with rpath would be a simple, opaque change, that would allow to
run suid programs as a normal user.
