getch() broken

       Hi, 

       I mailed about this a few weeks before and didn't find
      resolution (but thanks to Mark nevertheless).

      AFAICT, getch() in ncurses is broken.   The program test-q
      attached should exit when 'q' is pressed.  On GNU/Linux, it does
      so.  On GNU/Hurd it does not.

      I would like to check that the program misbehaves similarly
      for others before I attempt to investigate further.
