This could involve a lot of work.  Rather beyond me at this stage.  I
notice that Progeny uses Grub, but as far as I can see it does not have CD
support.

Ahh, is that the trick.

I found it aborting when it hit contrib, so I threw everything into the
main file system.  It was aborting consistently on my test system.

My gut feeling is that a woody Hurd release would be too soon, but I
expect a release the next time round.  A testing release with woody would
be great.
