I don't think the main reason for doing some KGI-like translator is
not to replace X, it's just that it's Right Thing to do. If there's
gfx hardware present, there ought to be a decent framebuffer-like
device/translator for it, like for all other hardware. Having X bang
the hardware directly is ugly.
