Getcwd?

Hi

I just spent all night installing debian gnu/hurd on my 486, and today I
thought I'd even try compiling something  ;)

It seems to me, though, as most makefiles and many build scripts get
hosed because they can't find the current directory.  I get messages
like these (these are from trying to build openssl):

make: getcwd: : Gratuitous error
pwd: cannot get current directory: Gratuitous error

This also leads make to try and exec stuff like /util/point.sh, because
the getcwd calls return nothing much.

I figure that since people have successfully built software on the hurd
before me, there must be a solution to this problem?
