If I remember correctly, some of the Thinkpads do not use standard IDE
controllers which leads Linux to believe they use some weird EIDE
(?something starting with E, do not remember for sure?) conroller so
the  drives' names  (Linux) are /dev/e*

Maybe the same problem here?
