On a second thought - you don't just 'use' a machine that displays
a friendly XDM login screen - probably the common case anyway with
a hypothetical installation someday. (Further thinking also revealed
that it would not make much sense for any login procedure to let you
in as the 'not yet authentified user' so just hitting [Enter] twice
in order to get an anonymous X session does not seem to be overly
reasonable.)

So maybe asking for a shell or a simple login as default behavior
of the console during installation would be a good idea just to
keep both HURDish and UNIXoid people happy - especially since there
is little reason to force any particular option upon them.
