I am guessing that he is using nvi.  nvi will often freeze for no apparent
reason.  The work around would be to either: kill vi and start editing where
you left off (via vi -r) OR use vim.  The easiest way to get vim is
installing it via dselect (remember to set your access method to ftp mode).
