Hey, keep your hat on.  :)  I don't think it's missing, maybe it just
needs a postinst or something after settrans /servers/socket/2.  As I
reported earlier, dpkg mentioned that it was replacing inetutils x.y.z
with the same version, but after installing (which should have been a
no-op) my network was functional.

Also, I remember having to struggle to unset the original translator.
Is this line in native-install really needed:

    /bin/settrans -c /servers/socket/2 /hurd/pfinet --interface=eth0 --address=192.168.0.1

?  I think I was getting "Device or resource busy" running

    settrans /servers/socket/2 /hurd/pfinet --interface=eth0 --address=10.0.0.1 --netmask=255.255.255.0

or  settrans /servers/socket/2

though I may have done some installation steps out of order.
