Because it has ancient makefiles with hardcoded linux. Try to persuade it
that you are using linux.
It even works on Cygwin32

In fact, gmp2 should be seriously modified to use Autoconf, Automake and
Libtool.
I'm affraid that RMS will ask me for the copyright assignment if
I venture to do it :-(

I'll try anyway.
