Arg! choosing the keyboard layout should not be irrelevant ;-)
Using the Hurd with a non-US keyboard is certainly difficult.

I guess a lot of new volunteers will arrive as soon as a port of kbd
(or any other thing with similar functionality) was available for the Hurd.
