I was able to boot an a500 and am installing using an image bdale
pointed me at.

The disk partitioning can automatically partition a "whole disk".
But I'm annoy I can't get it done the way I want it:

ion:~# fdisk -l /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 73.4 GB, 73407865856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 8924 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 32 257008+ f0 Linux/PA-RISC boot
/dev/sda2 33 157 1004062+ 82 Linux swap
/dev/sda3 158 8924 70420927+ 83 Linux

I'm annoyed because it's not obvious how to tell it palo to create an
ext2 file system in the boot partition and mount that:

ion:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 67G 690M 63G 2% /
/dev/sda1 244M 29M 202M 13% /boot

Can someone fix this?

hth,
grant
