Trouble trying to start gdm

After re-installing the released version for PA-RISC Debian 3.0 ("woody",
downloaded from ftp://gsyprf10.external.hp.com/debian-cd/3.0_r0/hppa/ ) on
my HP715/100 I am unable to start gdm. When I try to do so by typing gdm at
the prompt, I get the following error messages:

...................................................
(snip).............................................

(**) FBDev(0): Using "Shadow Framebuffer"
(--) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
FBINPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument

Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to submit@bugs.debian.org.
I would appreciate very much any help that I could get in resolving this
issue. (I have attached a copy of the Xfree86.0.log file for additional
clues to this problem.
Thanks,
Jaime Ash
