Looking closer, this cannot easily be solved so elegantly, because same 
error message is used for a range of pdf programs in different Debian 
packages.

What I will do instead to to mirror into README.Debian the hints already 
in long desription about which features need which suggested packages, 
and apply a modified patch to reference README.Debian.
