Aprsd with Kenwood D700?

Hello list,

I'm trying to setup aprsd as an iGate on a Sarge box. So far I have the
aprsd.conf and INIT.TNC files setup correctly and aprsd runs fine.
However, I am having trouble communicating with the D700.

I have been using minicom to try and troubleshoot the connection, as
aprsd does not seem to notice whether the tnc is really there or not.
With the D700 in packet mode, I can see incoming aprs beacons perfectly
and aprsd relays packets coming from the internet, etc. However, any
station listening to my beacons is unable to see the call sign sending
it. I am guessing this means the beacons are being sent in the wrong
format. With the D700 in APRS mode, it is like the serial port is
turned off. I can see a "PS1" when the radio turns on and "PS0" when
the radio turns off, but that is the only response I can get. I never
see any beacons the radio receives and it never transmits any beacons
from the computer.

Is anyone else using a D700 with Aprsd that could give me some hints on
what I'm missing?

TIA,
Jacob
