Then I got something like (freely translated) 
  Error during activation of XKB-config 
  ..... 
  please include something like 
  - printout of xprop -root | grep XKB
  - printout of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/xkb

But since the activation of XKB-config fail - I now have a working
keyboard :)

It should not be necesarry to reconfigure the keyboard for gnome, since
it works perfectly in gdm. It should be possible to reprogram the
keyboard but _not_ necesarry :(
