Using just some parts from experimental isn't hard. E.g. I have

Package: *
Pin: release a=experimental
Pin-Priority: 101

in /etc/apt/preferences, which keeps packages installed from
experimental up to date, but doesn't upgrade packages to experimental
automatically.
