I was tempted to say I disagree- then I realised I had no /firsthand/
experience of other systems, just that people who'd watched me install
Debian liked the way the menu system seemed to work properly...

The nice icons is simply because they aren't in teh packages. They
*are* supported in the menu system. (See Apps->Editors->Emacs19,
Apps->Sound->Aumix, Games->Adventure->NetHack etc).

Translations are a major omission, though.

Ungh, as someone pointed out, consistency is nice here- my WindowMaker
menu and my Panel menu are very similar because they both represent
the Debian menu structure- and I really like that. (It's also easier
to implement, and the gnome-panel support for menu is enough of a hack
as it is :}).
