Bug#58954: Problems upgrading to libc_2.1.3-4.deb on fresh 2.1 (slink) system

Package: libc6
Version: 2.1.3-4
I have read bug report #58766, which describes the same basic problem that I am encountering here, but as it reports it for libc_2.1.3-2.deb, I felt it prudent to submit a bug report for the newest version to let you know it refuses to install this version. Below are the important parts of the errors that dpkg gives me when I use 'dpkg -i':
dpkg: regarding libc6_2.1.3-4.deb containing libc6, pre-dependency problem:
 libc6 pre-depends on debianutils (>= 1.13.1)
 debianutils is installed, but is version 1.10.
However, when I try to install the newest debianutils, it tells me the same, but states it pre-depends libc >=2.1.2. Trying to install the package with the options 'dpkg -i --force-depends --force-conflicts' (--force-conflicts to get rid of a conflict with apt, and after having installed the depended ldso version) gives me the following errors:
Preparing to replace libc6 2.0.7.19981211-6 (using libc6_2.1.3-4.deb) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: readlink: command not found
dpkg: error processing libc6_2.1.3-4.deb (--install):
 subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 127
However, after I force the install of the newer debianutils (1.13.2), it gives me the folowing, very similur error, instead:
Preparing to replace libc6 2.0.7.19981211-6 (using libc6_2.1.3-4.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing libc6_2.1.3-4.deb (--install):
 subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 139
I personally don't know what all to make of it, but sufficed to say, it prevents my updating of any more software from the frozen directory, i.e. all the newer stuff. At any rate, I would most appreciate some sort of resolution to this, as soon as possible. If there is any sort of workaround, for the time being, I would be willing to do it, as I need to get this system running asap, so that I can use it for homework, Java software devel. Thank you all for providing this great distribution, and I look forward to using a full Debian Gnu/Linux system as my primary OS as soon as possible.

Oh, and sorry for the poor formating, it was necesary to get my web email client to accept this full report.
