the 2.2.x kernel package, not by libc. We do have an update-fstab
thingy, right?

My solution is an init script that checks kernel version and whether it supports the devpts or devfs filesystem and either mounts devpts or deletes /dev/ptmx. This init script is in the version of glibc I am presently uploading.
