Osmosis 0.49.1
The latest Osmosis upstream release uses gradle 8.1.1 which causes the
package build to fail because gradle in Debian is stuck at 4.4.1 due to
extreme difficulty updating it.
It has been suggested to use an alternative build system like Maven for
the Debian package builds [0], this may be an option to keep the osmosis
package in Debian. I have very little experience with authoring pom.xml
files, so this won't be easy or done quickly.
I don't really like the idea of maintaining a separate build system
without upstream support, so perhaps we should consider Osmosis
unmaintainable in Debian and removing the package.
On the other hand, Osmosis is in maintenance mode, and its infrequent
release don't create a heavy maintenance burden. Updating the Maven
build system every once in a while might be very doable.
Help from more experienced Java developers to get osmosis to build with
Maven is greatly appreciated.
