Re: [DebianGIS] OpenStreetmap.org Workstation Live CD using Debian?
As mentioned on -devel, I finally found time to work on this a bit. I've
made live images available from
<URL: ftp://ftp.skolelinux.no/pub/debian-gis/live/ >
A more final resting place would be nice. Do we have a place to make
such images available? I've started on a wiki page for information
about the Debian GIS live images at
<URL: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianGis/LiveImages >.
There are two images there at the moment. One is 719 MiB, and contain
the packages listed in the tasks/workstation file as well as the
kde-desktop, desktop and laptop tasksel tasks. Another is 321 MiB,
and only contain kde-core, kdm and xorg in addition to the packages in
the gis task.
The menu is a mess at the moment. Packages are missing and hard to
find. I suspect someone need to work with the package maintainers to
get sensible menu entires for "our" packages.
It would also be useful to have freely available test data prepared on
the live image (for example the Openstreetmap.org dataset loaded into
postgis), but I will leave that to others.
It would be nice to know if the live CD build process work for others
and not only for me. It work on Etch and need to run as root or with
sudo configured to allow make-live and rm to run as root.
I hope my framework will get others interested in working on a Live
CD, and that we can all cooperate to make it a useful demonstration
tool for the Debian GIS project.
Happy hacking,
