Re: [Pkg-grass-general] debian-gis stable

Hi all,

I start to install all my production use servers with sarge since september, and a lot of sysadmin do the same now. I can notice that with my unoficial repository, most of the reports I have, now concern sarge packages.

I'd starting making my packages for deploying mapserver/postgis on the servers I'm reponsive on and partners ones. That was 2 years ago for woody. But now making packages for woody is very long and dangerous, you need to backport lots lib and I most of case break a lot of tools who need specific version of those libs (particulary true with Gd).

So the situation is that for me, woody is less stable than sarge funny no ?

In my opinion making backport to woody now, is a lose of time, because of is depreticed use, and the version lib problems.

I don't know the delay before sarge been release as stable, but may be that before it all pakages like (postgis / geos / mapserver .... ) may be ready ? if it don't, we should reconsider making bakport for sarge a this time.

Anyway that's just my backporting experience.
