[Pkg-grass-general] Coming Postgis 1.0 release

Hi,

There is now a first release candidate of the 1.0 release out. This release changes the internal storage and is not backwards compatible with older releases.

So the question is what do we want to include in debian gis in the long term. Will we provide two postgis releases side by side ?

- An "old" postgis release (0.9.1) which is already packaged and the
most programs can work with

- An "new" postgis 1.0 release

As I understand the change related programs like QGIS can not work
with the 1.0 release without changes. Does anybody know more about that, or has made some experiments ?

The only thing I know for sure is that the java interface changes completely between the 0.9.1 and 1.0 release. So we cannot have one postgis java library which supports both releases.

Regards,

Wolfgang
