An explanation of my previous mail.
Due to recent changes in the way the grass binaries are compiled, Debian user
(those unable to compile) cannot use grass 5.7. This is a very serious issue,
and put Debian users at a serious disadvantage compared to other Linux users.
Please note that several distributions have most or all of indispnsable
packages.
I therefore think packaging grass (with gdal and qgis integration; also
mapserver and postgis/geos are fundamental) is very urgent if we want Debian
being usable for GIS. Given the rate of grass development, would it be
feasible to have updated packages from cvs (the way it is done e.g. for
scribus)?
All the best.
