Bug#612716: gcc-4.4: please provide alternatives

Package: gcc-4.4
Version: 4.4.5-10
Severity: minor

I believe that the gcc symlink should be provided as an alternative and hence
handled with the update-alternatives tool, to decide which compiler should be
the default, without forcing the newest one to be automatically the default.

I suppose it should be fairly easy to modify the package to provide such
option.

Regards
